Denia is located north of Javea and is considered the northernmost part of the Costa Blanca coast.  It is said that the sun shines here 320 days per year.  Denia and Javea are divided by the Montgo mountain - also called the sleeping elephant.  The mountain is very spectacular and offers a number of hiking trails.

Denia lies directly on the coast; with its 20 km beaches and wide variety of high quality restaurants and bars it offers lots of fun.  The beaches in Denia are very broad and offers many water sports like windsurfing, sailing and snorkeling.  Every year again the beaches awarded the European Blue Flag which represents the high water quality and clean fine sand.

In the North of Denia, there are the beautiful beaches 'Les Marines'.  To the south of Denia is the rocky area 'Les Rotes' , with its spectacular coves of transparent waters, ideal for anyone who loves diving or snorkeling.

Denia town is big and it's atmosphere gives a real Spanish feeling.  It is a working town as opposed to Javea (for example) which is much more a tourist city.  The main street in Denia has shady plane trees, many cafes and designer shops.  It's almost like being in a big city, like Valencia and Alicante.  Denia's facilities are excellent - a modern hospital, spas, two quality golf courses at 'La Sella' and 'Oliva Nova'.

Nightlife in Denia is very buzzing, not necessarily of discotheques, but with the hundreds of bars, live entertainment and restaurants, many of which are located on the sea.  There is always plenty of charm and atmosphere.

Denia is fairly industrialized, it is not running a typical fishing village and tourist resort but a hard fact that many people here live and work.  Also in winter it's very pleasant in Denia.  Whereas many other cities empty in winter the shutters in Denia from the restaurants and bars are always up.  Denia bustles year round with a good variety of amenities and facilities.

Be sure to visit the local market.  Sales of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as locally manufactured goods and products always makes for a great turnout.  The market day in Denia is Monday.

Another important milestone in Denia is the old 16th century castle in the middle of Denia on the hill that gives a spectacular view.

Denia has a large and cosmopolitan port and a large marina.  From here you can go to the Balearic islands of Ibiza.

The name Denia came from the Romans, who named the coast Dianum, gifts and developed as a main base on the way to North Africa.  Around the fifth century, the Cathedrals, addressed by Western gods, were removed.  Around 713, followers of Islam came to power and renamed it Deniya.   In the year 1036, the Spaniards came to power and became known as the Taifa Deniya.  When Jaime I took the city in 1244, he called it Denia.

Denia has experienced a major resurgence in the middle 19th century by the production and processing of raisins.  When the raisins branch not so profitable, Denia is focused on tourism, which is the major industry since the early 1960's.

Denia is close to the A7 motorway and is approximately halfway between the airports of Alicante and Valencia.
